Membership in the organization is on a local basis. Membership in a local chapter also entitles you to state membership, membership in The U.S. Junior Chamber and Junior Chamber International. Dues for membership into the organization are also on a local basis and vary from chapter to chapter. Cayce-West Columbia's dues are currently set to $60 for new members. Renewals for each successive year are $50. These fees cover the administrative costs of membership.
Members are encouraged to get involved with local projects. Members are also encouraged to develop their leadership skills by taking on a position in the management of the chapter. That leadership development can be taken even further to managing state, national, and international organization.
True leaders aren't born, they're made. Jaycees are provided with leadership training opportunities through hands-on experience serving in local, state, national, and international levels on everything from community projects to guiding Junior Chamber International.
Jaycees are offered training opportunities from nationally and internationally recognized experts and speakers. But what truly sets the Jaycees apart are the hands-on possibilities that the Junior Chamber provides to field test, refine, and constantly improve those skills learned that will serve well in every aspect of life.
New members find many opportunities to serve on, or even create and chair, a local committee. Soon, they develop the ability and the connections needed to use their skills beyond their communities, if they desire.
Jaycees learn it, practice it, and then develop it in others. Leadership is the gift we provide for ourselves, as well as our communities, with every action we take.
Jaycees are involved in reaching out and serving others. Through projects in local chapters, Jaycees are bettering communities all across America. The organization actively serves people through programs such as Jaycees Against Youth Smoking, which helps children make informed decisions to be smoke free.
Since 1955, the Jaycees have highlighted the efforts of young agricultural leaders through the National Outstanding Young Farmers Awards - a program sponsored by John Deere for the past 30 years.
Jaycees also honor exceptional achievement through the Ten Outstanding Young Americans honors, which have been presented annually for the past 68 years. This black-tie event is made possible through the generous support of the Anheuser-Busch Companies.
Junior Chamber members also have made an impact in the fight against cancer through the involvement in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life program. In 2005 the organization raised more than $500,000 nationally for the effort.
These activities as well as other local and state project are concrete ways in which Jaycees improve the lives of the resident of the communties they serve.
One of the best strengths of the U.S. Junior Chamber is the training provided to members on every level from local chapters and continuing on through the international level. To facilitate training programs within the organization, a group of experienced and skilled men and women have been assembled called the Training Task Force. Their work each year is centered on making training materials available to chapters through the various national meetings as well as through the official web site.
Each year the Jaycees hold two national conventions. At each of these meetings, professional skills development classes and Jaycee chapter leadership training are offered to those in attendance. What sets the Junior Chamber apart is the fact that you get this high-level, professional training, then are able to practice the skills learned through involvement in your local chapter.
During the last five national conventions, we offered concurrent training sessions dealing with topics such as leadership, communication, teamwork, networking, marketing, attitude, and more. Training is also offered annually at our Government Affairs Leadership Seminar in Washington, D.C., and our Local Presidents' Summit in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
